Lesson Journey Description: A series of 9 lessons that introduce youth to design thinking, the basics of block coding and the application of their learning to create their own coding project using Microsoft’s MakeCode, a freely available coding tool. Youth will follow the theme of ocean conservation in designing their project. Each lesson runs 1-1.5 hours in length, so the Leaving Land with Design & Code Learning Journey will take about 15 hours to complete. A class computer or tablet (that can be projected) with speakers and internet access is recommended for all lessons. For lessons 3-9, youth will need to share a laptop or tablet along with a Micro:bit. The book, Plastics Ahoy! By Patricia Newman, is optional to this learning journey but highly encouraged.
