About the Role

The Youth Activation Coordinator is a dynamic and engaging role designed for a digitally savvy individual who thrives in the world of social media and youth engagement and values the youth perspective and voice. You will work closely with the Flight Crew, a group of young STEM advocates, to activate their presence online, support their digital storytelling, and help them engage effectively with their audiences. Additionally, you will assist with program implementation, coordinating travel, scheduling, and event logistics to ensure the Flight Crew can maximize their impact at in-person and virtual events. Ideally, you will have direct experience working within a youth development program or participating in youth development and out-of-school programming.

Responsibilities

  • Program coordination: Assist and support the program manager in implementing the Flight Crew youth experience.
  • Event coordination: Assist with scheduling and managing Flight Crew availability for virtual and in-person events.
  • Travel logistics: Support Flight Crew members in arranging travel and accommodations for events.
  • Collaboration: Serve as a liaison between Flight Crew members, program managers, and event organizers to streamline communication and planning.
  • Media training and messaging standardization: Support the coordination of speaking engagements, communications resources, and training.
  • Social media engagement: Encourage and support Flight Crew members in creating and sharing STEM-related content across platforms (Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.).
  • Digital storytelling: Work with Flight Crew members to amplify their personal STEM journeys, ensuring authentic and compelling content.
  • Content strategy: Provide guidance and best practices on effective social media engagement, hashtags, trends, and online community building.
  • Performance reporting: Track and report back to the program team on Flight Crew social media content that performs well, identifying key themes and trends to enhance engagement strategies.

Qualifications

  • Ideally based in Washington, DC or the surrounding area. 
  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Highly proficient in social media trends and digital engagement strategies.
  • Social media savvy with experience creating and managing content across multiple platforms.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Passion for youth empowerment and digital storytelling. (Passion for STEM advocacy is a plus.)
  • Experience in event coordination or logistics is a plus.
  • Experience working at or participating in youth development or out-of-school programming.
  • Ability to work independently with a flexible schedule.

Travel Requirement

This position may require occasional travel for program implementation, team meetings, and on-site visits. Candidates should be prepared for travel on average 10% of the time.

Salary and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position ranges from $23 to $25 per hour, based on experience. STEM Next offers part-time employees sick leave and retirement benefits, including an employer 401(k) contribution. Additionally, STEM Next recognizes all federal holidays.

Location

This part-time, non-exempt position can be done remotely from anywhere in the U.S. with access to high-speed internet, but preference will be given to candidates near a major airport hub. The candidate should be comfortable and equipped to work efficiently in a remote work environment.
