Leading Big,
Moonshot Bets
National challenges that create seismic STEM learning shifts for millions of youth and educators
Big opportunities require big thinking.
We put a stake in the ground, coalescing partners around a big shared goal to make a difference. Case in point: the wild success of the Million Girls Moonshot.
Over the last three years, the Moonshot has reached tens of thousands of programs, hundreds of thousands of educators, and millions of youth across the country.
And we’re not stopping there.

Let's rally around a powerful vision and shared plan that catapults STEM learning to the forefront.

Through collective action and moonshot-thinking, we can do more than any one of us could alone.
Big Bets in Action
Million Girls Moonshot
STEM Next’s Million Girls Moonshot seeks to reimagine who can engineer, who can build, who can make. It inspires and prepares the next generation of innovators by engaging one million more young people, particularly girls, in STEM learning opportunities through afterschool and summer programs by 2025.
As a signature initiative of STEM Next Opportunity Fund, the Million Girls Moonshot gives afterschool and summer programs the proven tools they need to create rich, supportive STEM experiences—so all youth can explore, create, and envision themselves as future innovators.
Thanks to the support of powerful partners, we are on a soaring trajectory!
In just four years, we reached 2.6 million girls–and just as many boys!–in all 50 states.
More than 165,000 local afterschool and summer programs have been impacted, with more than 370,000 educators engaged across the country.
While our reach numbers tell an amazing story of the Moonshot’s rapid scale, it’s also proof that when we unite as a national movement with the right approaches and resources, we can dramatically increase STEM opportunities for millions of kids—enabling them to build skills, confidence, and a clearer path to STEM careers.
As we celebrate the impact we have already made, we remember that there is still much to do.
So, let our accomplishments be a testament to the power of collective action at scale and move forward with inspired momentum. Together, let’s keep reimagining who can build, who can engineer, and who can create.
