About the Role

STEM Next Opportunity Fund is seeking a creative, versatile, and highly skilled Marketing and Communications Manager to help bring our brand, mission, and impact to life. As a national nonprofit championing STEM learning beyond the classroom, we rely on powerful storytelling and effective marketing to engage funders, educators, and partners. That’s where we need your skills and creativity.

This role blends big-picture strategy with hands-on execution. You’ll manage content across channels, lead digital campaigns, write compelling stories, and bring ideas to life visually and creatively. You’ll report to the Director of Communications and serve as a close partner in executing the organization’s communications plan.

This is a great fit for someone who is a strong writer and project manager and has a sharp eye for design, fluency in digital marketing tools, and a solid foundation in strategic communications. 

Responsibilities

Content Development & Storytelling

    • In alignment with STEM Next’s editorial calendar, identify and develop compelling stories that highlight the specific impact of STEM Next’s work, uplift youth voices and experiences, and advance the narrative of the importance of out-of-school-time STEM learning. 
    • Plan and adapt content across distribution channels, optimizing for priority audiences and platform best practices.
    • Coordinate systems and processes for collecting impact stories and anecdotes from grantees, youth and partners; and conduct interviews. 

Digital, Social Media & Email Marketing

    • Oversee social media planning and content optimization across brand channels.
    • Monitor conversations and trends to support social listening and community engagement.
    • Design visual content using Canva, ensuring alignment with STEM Next’s brand.
    • Manage paid social campaigns and advise on audience targeting strategies.
    • Create and manage all email campaigns and newsletters using HubSpot Marketing Hub.
    • Use audience segmentation strategies to tailor email content for key audiences; manage subscriber lists.
    • Manage STEM Next’s Google Ads account, including basic search ad campaigns to increase brand visibility and drive web traffic.
    • Lead digital campaigns that drive audience growth and engagement, such as newsletter subscriptions, event registrations, and resource downloads.

Analytics & Performance Tracking

    • Oversee KPIs across all communications channels and campaigns.
    • Track, analyze, and report on performance using tools such as Sprout, Google Analytics and HubSpot Marketing Hub.
    • Recommend data-informed adjustments to improve engagement and reach.

Branded Asset Creation

    • Coordinate production of branded content such as videos, annual reports, and fact sheets, collaborating with external designers, vendors, and partners as-needed.
    • Ensure message and brand consistency across all visual and written materials.

Field Engagement & Partner Communications

    • Oversee content strategy and production for toolkits shared with STEM Next’s afterschool network partners, including newsletter and social media copy and graphics.
    • Support the development and distribution of materials that amplify partner efforts and highlight local impact.

Media Relations

    • Maintain a working knowledge of media relations
    • Support media relations efforts by drafting press materials, talking points, and related content in collaboration with the Director of Communications.
    • Track media coverage and assist with earned media reporting

Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field
    • 4–7 years of professional experience in a communications or marketing role, ideally in a nonprofit, education, or STEM-related organization.
    • Exceptional writing and editing skills with a strong portfolio of content that demonstrates storytelling, clarity, and audience alignment.
    • Demonstrated experience managing digital campaigns across email, social media, and web, with a strong understanding of platform best practices.
    • Hands-on experience with tools such as HubSpot Marketing Hub (or similar), Google Analytics, and social media management tools such as Sprout Social.
    • Solid understanding of website content management and performance tracking; experience with WordPress preferred.
    • Skilled in Canva with experience creating visually compelling, on-brand content.
    • Experience segmenting audiences, managing email lists and leading email campaigns.
    • Experience with social media management platforms and content creation.
    • Strong project management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, fully remote environment.
    • Highly self-motivated with excellent judgment, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach.
    • Passion for advancing access to STEM education and youth development.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $80,000-$95,000. STEM Next offers generous paid time off, sick leave and federal holidays.
