While women have made gains in STEM career fields persistent gaps remain, particularly in engineering and a variety of science fields. While research abounds to highlight this challenge, we continue to fall short in empowering young women to lead the way, especially those who have been historically under-represented. Until now.
#GirlsLeadSTEM, a national effort to elevate the voices of young women and girls in STEM, is poised to transform the tired narratives and celebrate the girls who lead their STEM journeys, in their own voices, with their own communities and on their own terms.
The brainchild of a coalition of STEM champions committed to advancing gender and racial equity, #GirlsLeadSTEM joins powerhouse STEM advocates from the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, Intel Corporation, Lyda Hill Philanthropies, STEM Next Opportunity Fund, Techbridge Girls and the National Girls Collaborative Project.
Join us this October for #GirlsLeadSTEM month.

About #GirlsLeadSTEM
#GirlsLeadSTEM is a collective effort to elevate the voices of young women and girls in STEM, especially those who have been historically under-represented in these fields. October 2022 will be the inaugural #GirlsLeadSTEM Month. We will amplify the diverse voices of girls involved in STEM projects and fields from across the U.S. #GirlsLeadSTEM will:
- raise awareness of these future leaders and the organizations supporting them;
- enable more girls to “see themselves” and inspire them to pursue STEM education and careers;
- understand, from their perspective, what’s needed to ensure persistence in STEM; and
- mobilize the corporate, nonprofit and public sectors to support their needs by committing to impactful STEM initiatives focused on closing the gender gap in STEM.
