Texas Flight Crew Leader Wins Engineering Competition Grand Prize

From Austin, Texas, 2024 Flight Crew member Miranda won the grand prize at the inaugural international DiscoverE 2024 Future City’s High School Competition. One of four team members, Miranda competed against almost 100 students across the United States and Nigeria to research, design, and build a city of the future.

Following the competition, Miranda also received the DiscoverE Bell Girl Day grant to fund a project that showcases different aspects of engineering to young girls. With the knowledge that Miranda learned from the Future City¬Æ program, Miranda created a hands-on challenge for K-8 students to build the tallest tower possible using limited recycled resources in only 5 minutes! Miranda’s project reached around 600-700 students – 86% girls – as part of the University of Texas at Austin STEM Girl Day.
