STEM Next Flight Crew Members to be Featured on CBS’s Mission: Unstoppable

Two members of our STEM Next Flight Crew are sharing their STEM journeys on Mission: Unstoppable this month, continuing our partnership with the Emmy-nominated series to inspire youth everywhere to see themselves in STEM.

Airing on CBS this Saturday, Nov. 8, and next Saturday, Nov. 15, the segments feature New Jersey Flight Crew member Carolyn and Colorado Flight Crew member Elizabeth — two young leaders whose stories reflect the power of afterschool experiences to spark confidence, purpose, and a sense of belonging in STEM. Mission: Unstoppable is hosted by actress Miranda Cosgrove and features incredible female innovators who are leading the way in STEM, inspiring girls to aspire to careers in these fields.

This weekend’s segment with Carolyn debuts on National STEM Day, a fitting moment to celebrate the creativity and persistence that young people bring to solving real-world challenges. Carolyn, now a freshman at Stanford, shares how her love of math and data led her to create an AI-driven model that helped her school and nearly a hundred others dramatically cut paper waste. Her story shows how mathematical thinking, data science, and AI tools can transform simple observations into large-scale solutions.

The following Saturday, Elizabeth, a first-year student at the University of Southern California, talks about how she found her place in STEM through afterschool clubs and internships. Surrounded by mentors and peers who looked like her, she rediscovered her confidence and began mentoring others. Today, she’s pursuing studies in nanotechnology and astronautical engineering, with dreams of making space exploration more efficient through innovation.

Through the Flight Crew, youth like Carolyn and Elizabeth develop leadership skills, gain media and storytelling experience, and help shift public perception of who belongs in STEM fields. As STEM Next continues its work to expand access to high-quality afterschool and summer STEM learning, partnerships like Mission Unstoppable help amplify youth voices and connect their stories to millions of kids and families nationwide.
