Strengthening STEM Opportunities

STEM Next Opportunity Fellows add essential capacity within federal and state systems to support the systems change needed to expand out-of-school-time STEM learning for more young people. Fellows focus on maximizing opportunities and removing barriers so that more youth can participate in high-quality STEM experiences. Fellows serve for up to four years, gaining hands-on experience while receiving training and ongoing support from STEM Next, including access to a national network of STEM and informal education leaders. Through their placements, Fellows:

  • Start or support critical initiatives in out-of-school time, STEM, and workforce development.
  • Respond to urgent opportunities to strengthen STEM and out-of-school time learning.
  • Build channels of communication between agencies and local programs so that communities are better connected to resources and opportunities.
  • Share information about funding and effective practices that help afterschool and summer programs thrive.
