About the Role

The Flight Crew Program Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of the Flight Crew program, a national teen leadership program. Working closely with the Director of the Institute for a STEM Ready America, as well as the communications and program teams, the Program Manager will ensure alignment of goals and maximize opportunities to amplify youth voices in the national conversation on STEM equity. This role is dedicated to fostering a future where all youth–especially those historically underrepresented in STEM–can see themselves as future engineers, builders, and innovators. You will run monthly training and professional development for Flight Crew mentors, guiding and supporting Flight Crew members in developing and facilitating monthly programming, and managing the Youth Activation Coordinator. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in empowering Flight Crew members to engage their cohort and enhance their leadership skills. This role requires availability in the evenings to accommodate programming across multiple time zones.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program management: Oversee the Flight Crew program, ensuring smooth operation and impact.
  • Training and development: Lead and coordinate monthly Flight Crew mentor trainings and professional development sessions.
  • Partner relationships: Maintain positive relationships with STEM Next partners, statewide afterschool networks, and other relevant organizations to leverage resources, support program activities, and create speaking and engagement opportunities for Flight Crew youth. Additionally, represent the organization and youth voice programming at events, convenings, and meetings while coordinating local and state-level opportunities through partnerships with STEM Next grantees.
  • Youth support and engagement: Guide and support Flight Crew mentors in planning and facilitating monthly programming for their cohort.
  • Team coordination: Supervise and support the Youth Activation Coordinator to align digital engagement efforts with program goals.
  • Scheduling and logistics: Ensure program events, training sessions, and cohort activities are run efficiently, accommodating time zone differences.
  • Impact reporting: Track and report on program impact, engagement metrics, and outcomes to support organizational goals and funding requirements.
  • Community engagement: Assist Flight Crew members in identifying engagement opportunities within their local communities and connect them with STEM professionals.

Qualifications

  • Previous program management experience required.
  • Youth development experience required.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Experience with remote work and virtual communication tools, including virtual meeting software.
  • Experience in training and facilitating professional development sessions.
  • Ability to support and mentor youth in leadership and program facilitation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote environment.
  • Proven experience effectively using project management tools and Google Workspace applications (e.g., Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, Calendar) to manage projects, collaborate with teams and young people, and streamline workflows.
  • Must be available in the evenings to support programming across multiple time zones.

Travel Requirement

This position may require occasional travel for program implementation, team meetings, and on-site visits. Candidates should be prepared for travel on average 10% of the time.

Salary and Benefits

The Salary Range for this position is $60,00-80,000 depending on experience.  STEM Next provides paid time off, sick leave and 12 federal holidays.  STEM Next provides a comprehensive set of benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, 401(k) Retirement Plan, and Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account.

Location

This full-time, exempt position can be done remotely from anywhere in the U.S. with access to high-speed internet, but preference will be given to candidates based in Washington, D.C. The candidate should be comfortable and equipped to work efficiently in a remote work environment.
