About TCLift

TC Lift is a computer science and coding program for Latina middle school students that seeks to expose and promote Latina technology professionals as role models, encouraging interest in Math and Science during the critical middle school years, and promoting parents’ understanding and importance of computer science and STEM careers.

Opportunity is open and currently accepting interest forms.

Description of the Opportunity

Networks and Participating Program Sites – Maximum of 15 program sites across the 50 State Afterschool Networks will be eligible to receive this Booster Pack. Networks recruit program sites in their Network to participate.

Training and SupportProgram site educators attend two, two hour virtual training on TC LiFT curriculum and have access to monthly “office hours” with TC LiFT trainers for additional support

CurriculumProgram site educators implement TC LiFT curriculum (25, one hour lessons) for youth in grades 6-8th. Curriculum topics include: computer science, coding, arduino, projects in arduino, and empowerment in STEM.

Commitment from Network

  1. Networks identify and recruit program sites to participate in all aspects of the Booster Pack described above.
  2. Program sites administer a brief pre and post survey to educators trained and participating youth and return results to STEM Next and Techbride Girls.
  3. Program sites will liaise with Sabrina Gomez and Televisa Foundation to ensure all aspects of the Booster Pack are met.

Criteria

  1. Open to all Networks
  2. Participating program sites and educators should have an interest in computer science, have connection to the internet for training, working laptop or desktop, paper, and markers.

Timeline

March 1: Summer Booster Opportunities Launch. Networks identify and recruit program sites. 

April 16: Networks submit an interest form with participating programs and educators in mind by this date.

April 23: Networks are notified by this date.

May: Participating program sites and educators attend two, two hour virtual training. 

June – August: Program sites and educators facilitate TC LiFT curriculum and return educator and youth surveys to STEM Next and TC LiFT at the conclusion of the program. 

Closed Opportunities

Description of the Opportunity

Networks and participating programs: Maximum 25 participants will be eligible to receive this Booster Pack.

Training – Attend 2, 2 hours live, virtual trainings on TCLift Curriculum. Topics covered include: computer science, coding, arduino, projects in arduino, and girl empowerment in STEM.

Curriculum – Implement TCLift curriculum (25 hours total) in afterschool middle school.

Commitment from Network

1. State Network identify TCLift middle school program participants to attend 4 hour (2 sessions) training and implement 25 hours of TC Lift curriculum to middle school students in afterschool.

2. Program educators/facilitators administer a post-experience survey to asses student attitudes around STEM and CS and TCLift curriculum.

3. Networks and participating programs will liaise with Sabrina Gomez to ensure all aspects of the Booster Pack are met.

Criteria

1. Open to all State Networks 

2. Participating program staff should have an interest in computer science, fast learners, have connection to internet for training, working laptop or desktop, paper, markers

3. Participating programs must State Network and participating programs commitment to fully participate in all aspects of the Booster Pack

Timeline

January 2021: Network Leads apply with participating programs in mind; Networks notified by January 22nd.

January – February 2021: 1st training held last week of January; 2nd training held first week of February; Makeup session in February.

February – May 2021: Implementation of TCLift Curriculum to middle school students (25 hours, 2x/week, over 3 months).

April – May 2021: Participating middle school girls take CIS survey.
